Which Lawnmower for a small garden?

We get asked to recommend Gardening products a lot so we've decided to write a series of blogs to help you navigate the huge selection available. First up, we are going to talk about Lawnmowers for small gardens.

Now, if you are a guy, the chances are you want this recommendation to be high tech and full of muscle even if your lawn is small, I know that's what my other half would wish for however, in practice terms a smaller mower is lighter, easier to get into small spaces and generally can navigate irregular shaped lawns more easily. Another factor to consider is the cutting width (that's the width of grass cut in each strip as you walk across your garden.) Lager mowers have a bigger cutting width which is great for a large garden but they are heavier, less manoeuvrable and more expensive, so for smaller gardens I'll be focusing on mowers which cut somewhere between 25cm to 34cm. I'm going to recommend products that are practical and will more than meet your needs and hopefully your budget too!

There are so many great buys out there but here's our top picks.

1. The Flymo Easi-Glide - Best corded mower/great for uneven or sloped gardens. Best Price found £110 at Gardening world. (link below - we don't receive anything for following the link)

I know, I know..... we've all had one, or maybe our parents did.... but bare with me, Its design hasn't changed for decades and for good reason! Its hover action makes it so much easier to navigate uneven or sloped gardens and at £110 this is a no brainer. However it is corded so it's not always practical for those in upper flats without access to electricity on the ground floor... also watch out for the cable. The noise they make when you cut thought them accidentally will stay with you FOREVER.

2. Einhell GE-CM 18/30: Best budget cordless mower for small gardens. Best Price found Toolstation £159.98 (link below - we don't receive anything for following the link)

Now.... Einhell have lots of choice when it comes to mowers for small gardens so choosing a specific model came from not only experience of using them but from balancing up whet you get for your money.

I'm confident that whichever one of the slightly varying specs you choose, you will be on to a winner but at £60 less than the Einhell GE-CM 18/33 which has an extra 3cm cutting width and only 1 Ah battery power, if you have a garden of 150sqm or less this is a great buy.

3. Bosch AHM 38G: Best manual mower for small gardens. Best manual mower. Best price found £55.50 powertools2uexpress (link below - we don't receive anything for following the link)

So, we've looked at corded and cordless mowers but what about manual mowers? You might not have even realised that these still exist but they do and Bosch has one that more than deserves a mention. If you have a fairly flat garden and don't mind a not of a work out at a snip of the size and cost of our other 2 recommendations this may well be for you. With a 5 blade cylinder and even a back roller for a stripped effect, if you want a more environmentally friendly option that saves space and has very little that can go wrong with it, this may well be the choice for you.
